With Further Ado #052: A Conversation with Mark Waid

San Diego Comic-Con was full of big ideas, creative thinkers, celebrations of fandoms and a heathy respect (and awe) for the comics industry and those that have come before us.  Mark Waid embodies all those things. At the convention, he was busy speaking on panels, meeting fans, promoting the new innovative line of comics from Humaniods and trying to get his hands on that Rainbow Batman exclusive toy from Mattel.

(But then again, weren’t we all?)

But just before SDCC, I had a chance to interview Mark. He was the Keynote speaker at a small convention in the Finger Lakes.  He had a lot to say and speaking to him was a blast.  Enjoy this video, and you can almost relive last weekend’s 50th San Diego Comic-Con…but without those long lines!

Salt City Comic-Con Pre-game Captain America Movie Event in Auburn NY

The recent Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War (2016) pitted super heroes against one another as they struggled to balance long-time friendships with passionately held political beliefs. Stuffed with an overwhelming jumble of heroes, this movie was loosely based on the iconic comic series by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. Millar had once famously explained that this expansive adventure was a way “to play with all the toys in the toy box.”

This feature film will be screened at Auburn Public Theater on Thursday July 5th at 7pm by a vintage Captain America cartoon, showcasing the first time that many of these Marvel heroes appeared onscreen. The cartoon also utilized many of Captain America co-creator Jack Kirby’s original illustrations.

Geek Culture Expert (and PCS contributor) Ed Catto will be moderating the features and provide a brief introduction.

Cosplayer Steve Barker will be appearing in costume as Captain America at the unique event. Steve will also be exhibiting his impressive Captain America styled motorcycle out front of the theater.
