New Number Ones: New Comics Series Coming in June 2022

Summer is just around the corner, and there are excellent new comics series coming in June! We have compiled an alphabetical list with cover art and the official solicitation text from the publishers of some of the cool new comics that are coming out this month. Check below for our PCS NOTES to find out what we just have to tell you about the new comics in question.

This month we spotlight books from the usual suspects: DC Comics, Marvel Comics, AfterShock Comics, Image Comics, Boom! Studios, Mad Cave Studios, Ahoy Comics, Vault Comics,  Dark Horse Comics, and Scout Comics.

It’s a FIVE-WEDNESDAY MONTH; so, we have five glorious weeks of new comics. The bulk of the new releases are in the middle weeks with the first and last being very light with new series.

We will bring you reviews of these debut issues as they come out, and don’t forget to use the comments section to let us know what you think of this list.

PCS NOTES: The current reigning master of horror comic storytelling is at it again. We are intrigued by this book.

As of late, I’ve been lucky to consume a metric ton of digital media. For those in-the-know, I tend to operate on two screens; one primarily for the drawing work I’m doing for the evening, and the second monitor to play something to keep my ears happy. I tend to toss on Netflix, YouTube, or Hulu, and let a show run while I draw. It’s good for when I need to take a mental break — no, seriously, drawing causes me to intensely focus so I need to take it easy every few minutes — and it’s good to catch up on all the shows in the zeitgeist.

Recently this has meant consuming the second season of Iron Fist, the third of Daredevil, and as of a few days ago… giving Runaways a try over on Hulu. And it got me thinking specifically about the shows I consume week-to-week versus multiple-episodes-a-night— The Flash, The Gifted, and Legion being the most well-known.

Binge-Culture is a thing now, isn’t it? Shows being made specifically to be absorbed en masse as quickly as possible. It allows for motifs (be they visual, auditory, or a combination) to form, fire, and be appreciated far easier than for shows where you return, at most, once a week. But just because binging exists doesn’t mean it’s a valuable tool for every show. In this column, we make a quick trip through this weeks pull-list. It features mostly spoiler-free brief analysis and commentary of each book.

This week had a lot of interesting books and there were some digital developments. We expanded to include 2 digital only books in the column

There is a 4 star rating system. It is simple and not to be taken too seriously as everyone gets their own impressions of art. These ratings are just to give our readers an idea of what we thought of the book, and they will be on the generous side normally. So don’t expect to see a lot of 1 Stars. After all, its not often that you have a bad book on your pull-list.

Jessica Jones Is Back in Comics in New Marvel Digital Line

Jessica Jones Is Back in Comics in New Marvel Digital Line

She’s obviously still going to punch things (and fly…badly)

First of all, Jessica Jones is coming back to her own comic book with a fantastic creative team! Second, Marvel is embedding itself deeper into the mesh of multi-front content distribution.

Marvel has announced a new ongoing comic series that is surprisingly available today from writer Kelly Thompson and artist Mattia de Lulis.  Thompson’s run on Hawkeye with Kate Bishop was one of our favorites of recent years, and her working on Jessica Jones is exciting. According to editor Nick Lowe, “Kelly was actually suggested by Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of Jessica, when he was wrapping the previous volume because he was impressed by her depiction of Jessica in Hawkeye. ” That seems to be enough for the Jessica fan to get on board.

From the writer’s perspective, Thompson has said, “We’ll be seeing classic Jessica Jones P.I., my favorite kind of Jessica. She’s obviously still going to punch things (and fly…badly) when opportunities present themselves—and they do that quite a bit—but at her core she’s the most exciting to me in her classic noir setting working as an investigator. ”
