A SOUND OF THUNDER Vocalist Returns from Injury with New Album

A Sound of Thunder vocalist Nina Osegueda was in a near-fatal car accident in July. After a period of uncertainty, Nina and band are back and have announced their new album Parallel Eternity. The album will be released in February 2020 and is available for pre-order exclusively on Kickstarter now. The album cover is by long-serving A Sound of Thunder artist Dusan Markovic.

Osegueda sustained serious injuries when her car was struck by a commuter bus. Her vehicle was rolled and crushed by the impact. Though she suffered multiple bone fractures, she luckily escaped without any spinal cord damage or internal injuries. After being confined to a wheelchair for several weeks and intensive physical therapy, she has now made a near full recovery. Osegueda comments: “That accident made me feel like I’m on borrowed time. I’m so grateful to be alive and well! It only solidified my desire to make music and keep going as long as I can!” Continue reading “Press Release: SOUND OF THUNDER Vocalist Returns from Injury with New Album”

Public Service Announcement: TODAY IS HALLOWEEN COMICFEST!!!

Public Service Announcement: TODAY IS HALLOWEEN COMICFEST!!!

Today is Halloween ComicFest. What is that? It is a daylong celebration of spooky comics you can find at local comic shops across the country. Many publishers issue special free comics for this day and it is the fall version of Free Comic Book Day.

Be sure to check in with your LCS today. They likely have a celebration planned. Some have costume contests and comic pro signings. There are usually great comic and merchandise deals to be found.

This is really a fun day to get together with other comic fans and enjoy the spooky season. It is an important day to support your LCS as well. This is one of the few times of year that the small businesses that sell us comic goodness can hope for a better than average number of customers.

So, throw on a costume. Head down to your comic shop and support a small business and the comic industry at the same time. Reply in the comments with your pictures of celebrating Halloween ComicFest.

Baltimore Comic-Con 2019 – Cosplay Pics

Baltimore Comic-Con 2019 – Cosplay Pics

We are back from the fantastic Baltimore Comic-Con. As we walked the aisles and convention areas for three days in Charm City, we were treated to wonderful display of cosplay. There was a vast array of characters from every genre and medium that showed up at the event.  We collected a small spattering of the cosplayers we saw and are bringing them to you here.

The cosplay game at Baltimore is serious business. There are a bunch of meet-ups and you can see photo shoots going on all around the convention center. However, even the most basic costume is welcome and appreciated. It is a truly accepting convention. There is a very comprehensive Weapons Policy for the con and it is posted on its website in an easily located place.

As a special treat, we got a shot of the über-talented Afua Richardson in her Okoye cosplay.

If you are following us on Instagram or Facebook, you will find some bonus cosplay pics there.

This is just our first post from the Con. Stay tuned for more…..

Syra Con Celebrates Two Legendary Guys Named Joe

Syra Con Celebrates Two Legendary Guys Named Joe

Legendary comics artists Joe Sinnott and Joe Jusko will “team-up”, in classic Marvel Comics style, for an intimate conversation at Syracuse’s Syra Con, the long-running pop culture convention.

Joe Sinnott is best known for his contributions as an inker during Marvel’s Silver and Bronze Ages. He enjoyed impressive runs on titles such as Fantastic Four, West Coast Avengers and The Mighty Thor. Sinnott’s long career and strong pencil art talents stretch far beyond those iconic titles.

Joe Jusko started his career as a cover artist on Marvel titles like Savage Sword of Conan. Jusko’s ability to channel the power and excitement of traditional comic art in an authentic painted format has earned him a reputation as a top painter and creator. Jusko is currently developing new covers for every Edgar Rice Burroughs book (including the Tarzan and John Carter of Mars series), a feat never before attempted by any artist.

Ed Catto, founder of Agendae and lecturer at Ithaca College’s School of Business, will moderate the panel.  Catto has recently been a featured speaker at other Central New York events including Syracuse University’s CONfluence and Binghamton’s SerlingFest, which celebrated the legacy of Rod Serling and especially the Twilight Zone.

The Syra Con is a long-running comic convention that celebrates pop culture and has always maintained a strong focus on comics.  The event, the longest-running con in Syracuse, is a favorite among comic enthusiasts, horror fans and passionate collectors.

The Syra Con Fall Edition Comic and Pop Culture Expo will be held at the Holiday Inn, 441 Electronics Parkway, Liverpool from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 13th.  The panel discussion will begin at 2:30 pm.

More information on Syra Con can be found here.
