Brainiac On Banjo: More Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mind

“Semolina pilchard climbing up the Eiffel Tower. Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna. Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe!” From I Am The Walrus, written by John Lennon.

As the great Hedley Lamarr famously said, “My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.” It is under this premise I share these random errant thoughts.

The closer President Joe Biden comes to the end of his term, the more he looks like he was drawn by Will Elder.

I firmly believe DC’s latest sub-imprint launch is being co-funded by a major vodka company.

Will Robert Downey Jr. be cast as Dr. Thomas Wayne? Will we see him buying those damn pearls?

I think Agatha All Along is a great example of contemporary social satire. Sorry, incels. She still won’t sleep with you.

There’s a great job opportunity waiting for a person qualified to keep IDW’s revolving door well-oiled.

The current Ryan North run on The Fantastic Four is nothing short of brilliant. The stuff that should be there is there, hung on the strong framework of great human interest stories. I highly recommend it.

Back in the last millennium, I worked at a radio station that was in the same building as the great Dick Orkin, a.k.a. The Wonderful White-Winged Weekend Warrior, Chickenman. Another tenant was the outfit that produced the wonderful Ronco commercials, the very height of 1960s kitch. I still judge teevee commercials by their standard.

Now that I think on it some more, Governor Tim Walz looks like he was drawn by Will Elder as well.

The current run of Birds Of Prey by Kelly Thompson is one of my favorite monthlies, in large part because of her take on Big Barda and how Barda plays with the rest of the team. I hope this characterization is maintained in the upcoming New Gods series. She’s been one of DC’s most compelling characters for over a half-century, and rarely has she been handled in such an interesting, heroic and individual way.

Can anybody tell me if Tony Stark is once again a human being, or is he “just” some sort of collection of algorithms and patented ego issues? Does Doctor Doom still like him? And how many more times can they reboot Iron Man before the oceanic heat sink dries up in 23 years?

The Dick Tracy movie Warren Beatty made back in 1990 was one hot mess, rarely showing Tracy off as a detective and wasting a plethora of truly great legacy villains. That latter bit, which really annoyed me at the time, is being handled far more effectively in the new Dick Tracy comic book series. Most all of your favorite Tracy bad guys are in the story, but they play useful and important roles in the story and are not blown off as the director’s cannon fodder. Yes, this series is unique onto itself, and that’s fine by me. It’s not 1931 any longer, and comic books are a medium different from comic strips — not to mention that highly self-indulgent star-laden movie.

Just in case you actually thought this would be the one time I do not make political illusions… well think of Marjorie Taylor Greene as a pop culture figure. You know, like Madame Lafarge.

In the immediate wake of Hurricane Helene, the notorious MRG said this meteorological event was caused by humans and their weather-making machines in order to kill off Trumpsters in the southeast red states. Some people laughed and made references to Jewish space lasers. However, other people — MAGAts — have taken this incredible bullshit to heart. This past week many television weather people, generally known as meteorologists, have been receiving real death threats from right-wing fools who think America is not great.

Death threats in response to hurricanes that these anthropomorphic turds think were created by Kamala Harris and her supporters. Holy shit, no wonder we tag mass murderers as mentally ill.

I guess we might need Absolute Batman after all.

Thoughts?
