What a huge week in trailer releases this has been!?! All of my nerdy fanboy nerve endings are buzzing with anticipation for some of the amazing geeky productions that are headed our way. While there are already a couple of big movies on the horizon like this week’s Super Mario Bros and May’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol.3 along with June’s The Flash, there are some very cool things coming up right behind them.
Blue Beetle
The first trailer that I came across this week was for the Blue Beetle movie that releases August 18th from director Angel Manuel Soto staring Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes. While this is the last piece of DC Studios content that is not 100% under authorship of the new regime of James Gunn and Peter Safran, we are hoping it sticks and is the type of tone that we get from the new DC Universe. It has an excellent mix of seriousness, humor, responsibility, and hope. Those are what I am looking for in superhero stories.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
The next trailer on the list is for the sequel to the phenomenal Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The cast and characters from the 2018 hit return to explore more elements of the multiverse and there are some amazing characters from the comics introduced in this fantastic looking animated feature. The latest trailer dropped this week for the film that will be released in theaters on June 2 and is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson.
Barbie
This film is one that I wasn’t super excited about until I saw the trailer. Barbie starring Margot Robbie and directed by the acclaimed Greta Gerwig hits theaters on July 21st, and I never thought I would be this excited about a Barbie movie, but if you are looking for some summer fun, this looks like it will fit the bill.
Ahsoka
As is often the case with trying to keep up with pop culture happenings in 2023, there is always something new. This last trailer on the rundown just came out this morning in coordination with the start of Star Wars Celebration. The trailer for the new Disney+ series Ahsoka staring Rosario Dawson as the titular Ahsoka Tano looks amazing. It will hit the streaming service in August and the tag line is killer: Warrior. Outcast. Rebel. Jedi.
Update:
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
What did I just say about being hard to keep up with the amount of content? Just after this post went live the latest trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny dropped. We included it below. The performances by Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Mads Mikkelson all look fantastic. This film directed by James Mangold will be released in theaters on June 30th. Time to punch some Nazis.
What are you looking forward to?
