Kickstarters You Should Be Backing – November 2022 Edition

This month we have a bunch of campaigns available to support on Kickstarter. As you are planning that Holiday Shopping list, there are definitely a few campaigns on this list that you will want to check out.

Kickstarter is a platform available at Kickstarter.com where creative individuals have the ability to design and run a crowdfunding campaign. The concept is that individuals pledge to support the project, and if the project reaches the planned goal of pledge money in the time that campaign is running, then the project will get made. There are usually many various tiers of backer pledges, and different pledge levels come with different backer reward items. It is a fantastic way for creators to fund the projects that they love and want to create while getting new interesting things into the world.

The campaigns we highlighted for this month are in various states of funding. Some are fully funded and into the state of trying to hit stretch goals that come with even more cool stuff for backers and some are still in need of backers to hit their goal and get their project made.

Some of these projects are being run by well established entities and others are entries by much smaller and newer creators. All the campaigns have been chosen because we want them to succeed, and because we see something special in the product. There are over 3000 live Kickstarter campaigns right now and over 260 comic based projects. Here are the 11 that we think you should check out!!!

The projects are listed below in chronological order of the end of the campaign. So, the ones that end soonest come first. Make sure you click on the Campaign Links for each campaign to get all the detailed info about the rewards and creators. We feel there is something for everyone on this list. Enjoy!

Slice of Life #1-3 – Queer WEBTOON with an Anime Twist
Gritty anime protagonist, Lady Vengeance, finally realizes her romantic feelings for the girl next door.

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3N7vBNp

Ending: Tue, November 22 2022 10:00 PM EST

PCS Thoughts: This story from Kat Calamia and Phil Falco is one that we get very excited to see on Kickstarter. It is an excellent story and these folks do a great job with presentation and fulfillment. If you are mildly interested in the content of this book, you will be very happy as a backer of this project!!

From the Campaign:

When gritty anime protagonist, Lady Vengeance, is brought to the real world by a super fan, she’ll learn there’s more to life than darkness and revenge…and she’ll find love with the super fan’s twin sister – a kind-hearted cheerleader.

Slice of Life is a queer romance that deconstructs the “slice of life” genre, unpacking the importance of everyday narratives to tell a larger story about the meaning of life from the point of view of a fictional character.

In this next installment of Slice of Life, Yuriko starts to find her place in this new world and finally realizes her romantic feelings, all while Lucy goes through her own gay self discovery journey.

Slice of Life #3 will be collecting Chapters 12-18 from WEBTOON in a new sequential format. The 56-page comic book will also contain a 3-page EXCLUSIVE story (featuring Yuriko and Lucy as a couple) not available on WEBTOON/Tapas!

The story takes place in the future and sees Yuriko helping Lucy with a college English course.

Love and Capes: Home for the Holidays
We’re making a Love and Capes Christmas Special comic!

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3z9Rd5W

Ending: Wed, November 23 2022 1:22 PM EST

PCS Thoughts: Love and Capes is one of my favorite comics because it takes the ultra serious and fairly ridiculous genre of superhero comics and flips it on its head into a rom-com / family sit-com. The evolution that Thom Zahler has developed over the last few years has really opened up the world of the Crusader. This project will be more than worth your while, and time is running out on this opportunity.

From the Campaign:

Let’s do a Christmas Special!

First published in 2006, Love and Capes is the Ringo and Harvey-nominated, heroically super situation comedy about Mark Spencer, the world’s greatest superhero, the Crusader, and his girlfriend (now wife), bookstore owner Abby. Together, they have navigated dating, marriage and parenthood. Now have two kids, James and Hayley, and are having brand-new new adventures.

Love and Capes: Home For the Holidays started as a Patreon-only webcomic continuation of the Love and Capes series. Picking up a year or so after the last collection, “In the Time of Covid”, it shows our heroes enjoying the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

What we’re making is the print collection. Fifty-plus awesome pages of Love and Capes heart and humor. A complete story. In a high-quality, square bound collection (similar to the issues of The Dark Knight or Captain America: Sentinel of LibertyIt’s what they used to call “prestige format”.)

Of course, as with any Kickstarter, it’s not just the comic. At different reward levels, you can get sketches, original art, and even appear at Charlotte’s New Year’s Party. And who would throw a better New Year’s Party than Charlotte?

Infinite Souls: A Halloween Tale #1
Can a band of haunted heroes save multiple universes from an agent of Death and his eerie allies when the veil between worlds is weak?

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3f4sZTU

Ending: Fri, November 25 2022 1:06 AM EST

PCS Thoughts: This multiversal supernatural team up extravaganza just feels like fun comic story. The character descriptions and designs are intriguing. There are easily accessible backer rewards as well.

From the Campaign:

There is one consistent period of time across the multiverse when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is thinnest. Some refer to specific days or times during this period by terms such as All Soul’s Day, All Hallow’s Eve, Samhain (pronounced Saw-Win), Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and more. It is probably most well-known as Halloween.

A former lieutenant of Death, St. Samhain seeks to increase his power exponentially. With the coming period of Halloween, piercing the veil between the living and the dead is no problem for him — but what if he can also pierce the veil between universes? Seeking this information in the Voynitch Manuscript, sacred writings protected by the mystic Dr. Spectral, St. Samhain kills the mystic to seize the book.

To enact the process of claiming infinite souls from the multiverse, he’ll need help to gather the elements of the Pentagram Stone, so he summons a group of frightening allies. With the Pentagram Stone, he will become the Master of Life and Death to all.

However, the Dr. Spectral of another universe (next one to the right… of course!) senses the attack. He must recover the Voynitch Manuscript and stop St. Samhain’s force. He summons a few haunted heroes for help.

As the teams clash across multiverses, the situation is desperate. Can the heroes prevent the Pentagram Stone from being found and assembled? Will they save the universes being used by St. Samhain, or will they be caught in a dying one? They must do it before the Halloween begins, or St. Samhain will rip open the veils across so many universes that they won’t stand a chance.

Get Lich or Die Trying #1
A comedy/action adventure steeped in role-playing game lore brought to you by the writers of the Ringo Award-winning Metalshark Bro

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3VTf8jQ

Ending: Fri, November 25 2022 12:01 PM EST

PCS Thoughts: This new comic from the creators of Metalshark Bro! and others looks like a great treat for fans of fantasy and D&D. The preview in the campaign confirms that thought and we are excited to see this comic get made.

From the Campaign:

To save their community, a crew of lowly monsters set out on a fool’s errand: To destroy a powerful undead wizard with the hopes of stopping the never-ending stream of murderous, glory-hunting adventurers trampling through their homes.

Nick Noons, Kevin Cuffe, Bob Frantz, and Chas! Pangburn proudly presents Get Lich or Die Trying #1, the forty-page issue 1 of a four-issue mini-series.

Get Lich or Die Trying is a fantasy/comedy comic steeped in tabletop gaming lore that is sure to appeal to fans of Coda or Rat Queens with enough laughs to hook the Rock Candy Mountain and I Hate Fairyland crowd.

Get Lich or Die Trying is fantasy story-telling filled on its head. It’s Lord of the Rings told through the eyes of the orc,” says series co-writer Kevin Cuffe. “We are putting a fresh coat of paint on a very classic and time-tested adventure,” says co-writer Bob Frantz.

Vampire Detective in Space #1-3
A vampire detective solves mysteries with the help of his snarky A.I. companion.

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3FvYuBa

Ending: Sun, November 27 2022 11:00 PM EST

PCS Thoughts: This campaign is exactly what we like about Kickstarter. Independent creators finding an outlet to get their comics made and into the hands of fans. This premise grabbed us and we are probably going to support this at a catch up backer level to get the whole story.

From the Campaign:

The last vampire in the galaxy is a detective… and he’s about to face his most difficult case yet.

Vampire Detective in Space is a science fiction comic book about a thousand-year-old vampire and his floating head A.I. companion solving mysteries on a giant space station in the distant future. It is a gut-wrenching drama about doomed relationships and personal discovery, with a healthy dash of comedy thrown in.

Issues #1 and #2 were funded and delivered earlier this year, and now we are back with issue #3, which picks up where the last issue left off! This issue has 24 pages of story.

Who will love Vampire Detective in Space?

Fans of:

  • hardboiled detective stories
  • cyberpunk and sci-fi
  • problematic faves
  • anything involving vampires

If you like shows like Altered Carbon or movies like Blade Runner, you’ll love Vampire Detective in Space.

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3h1ulj1

Ending: Wed, November 30 2022 9:00 PM EST

PCS Thoughts: A comic review and news website finding its way into a physical medium. Heck yes we support that. We are excited to see this campaign be a rousing success… for reasons.

From the Campaign:

We are currently funding the fourth issue of MONKEYS FIGHTING ROBOTS: THE MAGAZINE! That’s right: the “drunken love child of Rolling Stone and MAD Magazine” is back, and this time, our focus is on COMIC CONVENTIONS.

SHOOK! A BLACK HORROR ANTHOLOGY
A 160+ page EC Comics styled horror anthology featuring writers such as Rodney Barnes, John Jennings, Kevin Grevioux, and David Walker.

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3FvNL9V

Ending: Wed, November 30 2022 11:58 PM EST.

PCS Thoughts: Themed anthologies are one of the special things that we look forward to finding on Kickstarter and this one is something that has us excited. The high quality creators lined up for this book are just the start. There is quite a bit of preview art at the campaign site that you should check out.

From the Campaign:

A BLACK HORROR ANTHOLOGY is a 160 page graphic novel comprised of tales of horror, sci-fi, and suspense from a collection of a few of the most talented African American writers in the comic book industry. Dubbed “The Dream Team”, these creators represent black excellence in the horror genre.

The project represents a long discussed collaboration between CEO Bradley Golden and COO Marcus H. Roberts of Second Sight Publishing, LLC and Professor John Jennings of John Jennings Studio LLC. Stemming from a love of horror; specifically what is referred to as Southern Gothic horror by Jennings, the companies wanted to come together and tell engrossing stories, and also bring along what they felt was some of the great talent already burning up the horror scene. This anthology boasts a cadre of award winning or nominated writers representing awards such as the Will Eisner Awards, the Ringo Awards, the Hugo Awards, and is the largest collection of Glyph Comics Awards winners and nominees in a single publication. The volume even includes prestigious television and film awards such as the American Film Institute Award and the Writer’s Guild of America. So, sit back and follow us on this journey of terror, suspense, nightmares, and the darkest depths of FEAR!!!!

Sacrifice Issues 1 – 4
Take a journey through Hell, in this 32 page issue of the horror comedy series, Sacrifice

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3WioVjI

Ending: Thu, December 1 2022 11:00 AM EST.

PCS Thoughts: We hope you think about backing this project because we would really like to get our hands on this comic.

From the Campaign:

Damien, the super powered host of the devil, has been looking for allies who can stop Lucifer from reviving, which would bring an end to the age of man. Among these allies are an archangel, a vampire, a demon hunter, and a fledgling witch who was chosen by a legendary spell book.

So far, our main characters made a deal to receive information about Mei’s spell book from the mysterious figure known as the Broker. Their meeting was fruitful but cut short to avoid the potential danger of letting the Broker know too much about Mei.

While this was happening, the rest of Damien’s group has been piecing together information they found to learn more about the Dark Order, and their plans centered around “Project Sin.”

Who would love Sacrifice?

  • Fans of horror, comedy, and over the top action would be huge fans of this series.
  • Horror: I’ve always loved monsters in comics, movies, tv, and manga. Especially when there are such a large variety of designs, that you rarely see the same type of demon more than once. That is something I strive to do, as there will be demons of all shapes and sizes every issue of Sacrifice.
  • Comedy: The series comedy comes from the laid-back nature of the characters while they deal with nightmarish situations, as well as how characters interact with each other. Take for example the vampire, Elizabeth, and the vampire hunter, Van Helsing, who bicker and hate each other, but begrudgingly work together because they need all the help they can get to stop Lucifer. In many respects it bears similarities to series such as Evil Dead, Ghostbusters, Shawn of the Dead, Spawn, and Hellboy.
  • Action: Fighting, fighting, and more fighting! There is no, “Oh, that issue was pretty dull” to be found here. With the way I have the story planned, I can promise that every issue of Sacrifice will have at least one showcase action scene.

All-Negro Comics 75th Anniversary Edition
The first anthology of Black characters created by Black cartoonists is remastered for today’s readers and beyond!

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3Ti4AbB

Ending: Tue, December 6 2022 8:00 PM EST.

PCS Thoughts: Anyone who loves comic books should consider backing this project. It is important work that Chris Robinson is doing, and I applaud him as I happily support this book. The history of this medium and industry is important to recognize as it shapes where we go from here.

From the Campaign:

75 Years in the Making…

Three quarters of a century ago, Orrin C. Evans lead a team of cartoonists to create the first comic book anthology of original Black characters created by Black talent, with the expressed purpose of entertaining while rejecting harmful stereotypes and pushing boundaries in the industry. This was only 8 years after Action Comics #1, 6 years after Captain America #1 and a whole 19 years before Black Panther hit the pages of Fantastic Four. All-Negro Comics #1 should be among those revered moments in comic book history, but the original print run was quickly removed from newsstands and in the present day, Superman and Black Panther are recognized everywhere while All-Negro Comics is a factoid that cannot be easily found or read.

That’s how I became aware of this comic book, as trivia. When I dug further into the history, I was both inspired by the trailblazing work of Mr. Evans and company, but also depressed that this foundational document wasn’t more well-known and readily available in any school library I’d ever been in.

Together We Can Change That!

Help me publish the All-Negro Comics 75th Anniversary Edition! This is a passion project I have been preparing for literal years. My entire career has been prologue to putting together the best presentation of this very necessary cultural exhibit.

All-Negro Comics 75th Anniversary Edition is an 88 page hardcover that includes:

The complete 52 page comic from 1947, digitally remastered! Consistent colors, crisp text, and no damage!

Brand new prose and comics featuring the All-Negro Comics characters by notable Black creators of today!

Brand new essays that provide historical and cultural context for folks of any background, thereby deepening the reading experience!
Pledging your support to our campaign can put a copy in your hands to share with family and friends, but also in the hands of students, the incarcerated, and many more.

Felix the Cat: The Collected Edition
Felix must face the menace, XILEF, who has appeared from another dimension in an all-new adventure!

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3Ob5pBT

Ending: Thu, December 15 2022 3:03 PM EST.

PCS Thoughts: This project has been a long time coming and we are excited that Rocketship Entertainment is finally getting this licensed adaptation of one of the oldest cartoon characters into the hands of fans. A great creative lineup ensures that this will be an excellent book. Don’t miss this.

From the Campaign:

Felix the Cat made his first public appearance in the 1919 short film “Feline Follies”. After playing in silent movie houses around the world, Felix made the transition to print, appearing in newspapers in languages reaching every corner of the globe. As his popularity grew, dolls, toys, games, songs, and comic books were produced featuring Felix the Cat.

In this new series, Felix the Cat and friends face the mysterious XILEF the Extraordinary, an all new foe more powerful than all of Felix’s past enemies combined. Can Felix and friends (classic and new) save the world from this Magical, Melodramatic, Machiavellian Malcontent?

Felix the Cat returns with All-New Adventures by writer Mike Federali and Bob Frantz with artwork by Tracy Yardley (Sonic the Hedgehog), colors by Matt Herms (Outrage, Mega Man), and letters by Dave Lentz (Warcorns). Felix must face the new menace XILEF who has appeared from another dimension. He also must defeat all his classic enemies, The Professor, Rock Bottom, and Master Cylinder, or hand over his Magic Bag O’ Tricks forever! During these new challenges, Felix meets new friends that will forever change the Felix universe!

Stretch goals and add ons will be revealed as the campaign progresses and when they unlock we’ll reveal the next ones. We think everyone will be pleasantly surprised by each!

So, what am I getting for my pledge? All backers at the $24 tier will receive the softcover graphic novel, printed at 6.625″x10.25″ – approximately 100 pages of content!

The Other Badguys Volume 1
The first volume of the hit webcomic by Luke Lancaster and Orlando Caicedo.

Campaign Link: http://kck.st/3E6aRBC

Ending: Fri, December 16 2022 6:07 PM EST.

PCS Thoughts: The last project on this list is also from Rocketship Entertainment and this is a project that they excel at. Fans of this Webtoon who want to have it in book form or new comers to the story will not be disappointed by this project.

From the Campaign:

Hey friends! We’re Luke and Orlando, creators of The Other Badguys. It’s been… a really wild ride from there to here. Let’s catch you up real quick.

We met through a Reddit post. We decided to make a superhero comic filled with dumb jokes and big fights and wildly incompetent main characters. We thought it was pretty okay. The surreal part was when other people did too?

You might have read it previously on LINE Webtoon, in which case you’ll be well prepared for the shenanigans of Doctor Zero, Deadbeat, Valentine, and the rest of the crew. If not, and you’re into superhero comics and bad jokes and heist movies, we think you might be into this too.

But, suckers that we are for the old ways, we always envisioned The Other Badguys as a traditional print comic. Now, with your help, we have the chance to actually do that. We can’t stress how obscenely cool that is.

And we’ll also give you some equivalently cool stuff for your trouble! So, thank you for stopping by and checking the page out. Thank you for reading, enjoying, and just generally being you. Now, on to the details!

THE OTHER BADGUYS is a superhero comedy heist comic with a cast of characters supremely out of their depth. Dealing with daddy issues, bad breakups, decades-old grudges, and profound professional inadequacies, the whole endeavor is pretty much a foregone conclusion. Badguys never win: There are rules, after all.

This is your chance to be the first to get your hands on the reformatted print edition of Volume 1 of Luke Lancaster and Orlando Caicedo’s hit webtoon series – approximately 200 pages of content from Chapters 1 through 3 (36 episodes total)!

The Other Badguys was originally published as The Badguys (before that other one) on LINE Webtoon and was the winner of Webtoon’s Stan Lee Superhero Contest in 2016.
