Original Solicitation:
Ghosts are real and dangerous. But they’re also valuable, their ectoplasm capable of curing countless diseases. There’s only one problem: harvesting the wonder drug can be just as deadly. Prisoner Gus Ortiz is willing to take the risk in return for a reduced sentence-anything to see his daughter again. All it will take is a few months at sea scraping ectoplasm off the walls of the Perdition, a floating prison containing the most vicious ghosts on Earth. Surrounded by dark waters, Gus soon realizes that angry spirits are the least of his worries. The Poseidon Adventure meets The Haunting of Hill House in this supernatural thriller.
PCS Review:
We are certainly interested in this series. The first issue does a good job of broadly setting the scene for the reality in which this story takes place. At the same time, it draws the reader into a harrowing set of events that the purported protagonist must survive. Cavan Scott’s dialogue and narrative techniques serve to ensnare the readers attention.
Nick Brokenshire has a style that works perfectly for this book. The jagged edges to almost everything evoke feelings of dread and unease in the reader. Technically it is an excellently crafted visual narrative with interesting panel designs and terrific use of shadow. Brokenshire’s color work is also a perfect match for the tone of the book. Shawn Lee does a great job handling the lettering in this book. There are some pages that you can really see the work he put in to lay out dialogue without sacrificing art.
The entire team should be proud of this book. It is a well crafted ghost tale with compelling character stories. I am certainly interested in where this story goes. Definitely recommended.
